Two years ago, my family was looking for a third dog. We had gotten our two previous golden retrievers from breeders but we wanted to adopt a dog this time. My brother, Lucas, had been searching petfinder (http://www.petfinder.com/) for a young, large, male golden retriever. After looking for a few hours, he came across this male, 8-month golden. His name was Canyon, and an English cream. My whole family agreed that this dog was perfect because he did very well with kids and needed other dogs. Canyon's story was that he was bought from a breeder when he was a puppy and this family thought this puppy had too much energy, not being able to take care of him. They took him to a high-kill shelter, at this time he was about 6 or 7 months. When they took him, he was underweight by 20 pounds. Also, workers at the SPCA think they abused him because he is nervous when new people put their hands over him. On a Sunday when my brothers and dad were at a basketball game, my mom and I decided to take our two golden retrievers, K.C. and Goldie, to meet Canyon. They got along great and we fell in love with Canyon. The next week, my whole family went to meet Canyon. I had really hoped that my dad would fall in love with him also because he was the sweetest dog. Fortunately, my dad really liked Canyon. There were other families interested in adopting him and my dad knew we couldn't pass him up so we decided to adopt him on the spot. To this day, he is still the most loving dog. He weighs 100 pounds, healthy for his type, but hes still a lap dog. He gets along great with Goldie, K.C. passed away a year ago and we got another puppy. Canyon and the puppy Frazier get along even better, they wear each other out. Canyon is almost 3 right now and he's one of the best dogs we've ever had.
In this slideshow, you will see multiple pictures of Canyon on pet-finder, when we met him, and pictures today.
